John Hayman John Hayman is the Founder and President of Capital Advantage, Inc. John received a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science with a subspecialty in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1981. John is a Certified Financial Planner, or CFP©, and a Registered Investment Advisor.

After working as a Financial Advisor at a major securities brokerage firm for three years, John saw something missing in the financial planning community: independent thought in investment planning and a loyal commitment to client service. Determined to create a new business model that would focus more on the client, John founded what is now Capital Advantage, Inc. in his basement in 1981. His vision: An independent investment advisor that would act as a fiduciary and provide financial peace of mind to each and every client.

More than 29 years later, Capital Advantage, Inc. is a 100% fee-only, SEC-registered investment advisor focusing primarily on individuals near or in retirement. More recently, the firm broadened its horizons and began providing institutional investment advisor services to non-profit groups and 401(k) plans.

Now that he is joined by a number of other financial advisors and a skilled support staff, John enjoys spending as much time with his family as possible. He lives with his wife and two daughters, as well as his many pets - two dogs, three cats, and two birds - in Orinda. If not cheering courtside at a Cal Berkeley game, John can be found enjoying the great outdoors—by boat, motorcycle or foot.

Donna Zinman Donna Zinman is the Executive Vice President and a Senior Financial Advisor at Capital Advantage, Inc. She is responsible for establishing new client relationships, managing investment portfolios and financial planning, as well as firm marketing and human resource management.

Donna received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from California State University at San Francisco in 1986 and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Golden Gate University at San Francisco in 1995. Donna is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor, or CRPC®, and a Registered Investment Advisor. She also holds a Certificate in Financial Planning from the University of California at Berkeley.

She began her career in the financial services industry in 1989. After working as a Bank Officer at Wells Fargo for two years, she joined Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. as a Financial Consultant in 1991. She joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2004.

Donna lives with her husband and daughter in Moraga. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family—hiking, biking, skiing and golfing are among the family’s favorite outdoor activities.

Dawnalizabeth Henke Dawnalizabeth Henke is the Chief Compliance and Operating Officer at Capital Advantage, Inc. She is responsible for designing and implementing programs, policies, and practices to ensure that all business units are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. She oversees the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the organization's financial and technical systems. As part of the investment team, Dawnalizabeth provides investment and market commentary, equity and fixed income selection and analysis, and asset allocation recommendations.

Dawnalizabeth received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from California State University at Hayward in 2004. She also received a Master’s Degree in Financial Analysis and Investment Management in 2007 and a Master's Degree in Business Administration in 2009, both from Saint Mary's College of California. Dawnalizabeth is a Registered Investment Advisor.

Dawnalizabeth began her financial services career in 1998 as a Financial Analyst at a private wealth management firm in Oakland. She joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2006.

Dawnalizabeth lives in San Ramon. In her time outside of work, she can be found traveling, wine tasting, or challenging the performance limits of her sports car.

Sylvia Hack Sylvia Hack is a Senior Financial Advisor at Capital Advantage, Inc. She is responsible for establishing new client relationships, managing investment portfolios and financial planning.

Sylvia received a Bachelor's Degree in International Economics and German Literature from the University of California at Davis in 1993 and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management, in 2000. Sylvia is a Registered Investment Advisor.

Sylvia began her career in the finance industry in 1997 as a Research Associate with Sutro & Company in San Francisco. Over the years, she transitioned through various positions in the industry ranging from Sales Assistant at Goldman Sachs to Institutional Bond Sales at Dresdner, Kleinwort, Wasserstein in New York to Financial Consultant at Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. in San Ramon. She joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2011.

Sylvia lives with her husband and son in Danville. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, attending various cultural events, and keeping up with her busy family.

Rick McNamara Rick McNamara is the Portfolio Manager and Mutual Fund Analyst at Capital Advantage, Inc. He is responsible for performing extensive investment research and analysis, selecting and managing investment options, maintaining investments in company financial systems, executing trades, and determining asset allocation models. Rick works directly with the company President to establish investment strategies, and is responsible for providing information and making recommendations to Senior Advisors on fund managers, investment selection, suitability guidelines, and active client portfolio management.

Rick received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University at Chico. Rick is a Registered Investment Advisor and holds a Chartered Mutual Fund Counselor (CMFC) designation.

Rick has worked in the financial services field since 1997, when he joined Franklin Templeton’s mutual fund information department. In 1999, he joined Charles Schwab & Co. Inc. as an Investment Specialist. He joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2002.

Rick lives with his wife in Castro Valley. A former college baseball player, he is an avid participant in senior softball, and plays 120 games a year in cities across the United States. His team is one of the top 60-year-old teams in the country.

Colin Taylor Colin Taylor is the Investment Analyst at Capital Advantage, Inc. He is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the organization's financial and technical systems. As part of the investment team, Colin provides investment and market commentary, equity and fixed income selection and analysis, and asset allocation recommendations.

Colin received a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Business from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs in 2001. Colin is a Registered Investment Advisor and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level II Candidate.

Colin began his financial services career in 2001 as a Mutual Fund Analyst for Prima Capital in Denver, Colorado. From 2002 through 2006, he worked for Techfi Corp. and Advent Software, Inc. (who acquired Techfi), providing out-sourced back office operations support to investment advisors. In 2006, Colin joined Catalyst FPIM, Corp., a private wealth management firm in Oakland, serving as the Director of Operations. He joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2011.

Colin lives in Oakland. In his time outside of work, he enjoys bicycling and hiking, martial arts, and reading.

Catherine Norris Catherine Norris is a Senior Relationship Manager at Capital Advantage, Inc. She is responsible for managing client accounts, developing client relationships, marketing, and event planning.

She began her financial services career in 1981, working extensively in private wealth management and investment management. In 1990, Catherine joined the hedge fund Pacific Equity Management in Oakland as the Office and Client Service Manager. In 2003, she became the Operations Manager at Mosaic Investments LLC, a San Francisco based hedge fund. Catherine is a Registered Investment Advisor. She joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2008.

Catherine lives with her husband and son in Danville. She is actively involved in ARF's agility program, the Canine Good Citizen program, and a forum which hosts fundraising events for the Havanese dog breed, of which Catherine owns two. She enjoys all levels of sporting events, entertaining, and assisting her gourmet chef husband in the kitchen.

Jeannie Churchill JEANNIE CHURCHILL is a Client Relationship Manager at Capital Advantage, Inc. She is responsible for maintaining client accounts, developing client relationships, and assisting with sales and marketing projects and events.

Jeannie began her financial services career in 1983 at Home Savings of America. Over her 15 year career with the company, she transitioned through various positions ranging from Customer Service to Vice President Manager. In 1998, she joined Litman/Gregory Asset Management, LLC, and over 13 years, was promoted from Portfolio Administrator to Senior Partnership Administrator to Manager of Partnership Services. She joined Capital Advantage, Inc. in 2011.

Jeannie lives with her husband in Martinez, and her son is currently attending California State University at San Francisco. In her time outside of work, she enjoys gardening, bicycling, and hiking. When not enjoying the great outdoors, she enjoys listening to her husband perform as drummer in his band.

Amy Montano Amy Montano is the Senior Administrator at Capital Advantage, Inc. She is responsible for reception duties, facility maintenance, marketing events, client service requests and special projects.

Amy received an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Heald Business College in Walnut Creek in 1985.

She began her career at Arthur Andersen/Andersen Consulting in 1989. In 1998, she joined Turner Investment Partners as an Administrative Assistant, and in 2007, she joined Capital Advantage, Inc.

Amy lives with her husband and daughter in Walnut Creek. She enjoys a number of outdoor activities, including hiking and horseback riding.
